Welcome !!! “Healthy Herbal Homesteading Hippie” began as a Facebook page I created a few years ago when we were still living on our Healthy Herbal Homestead in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Coming across so many exciting and informational posts that I wanted to save for future reference, I copied them onto this Facebook page. Within months I soon had “followers” and “likes” which made me realize that there were thousands of people out there in the world that are interested in the same topics as I am. Healthy Herbal Homesteading is now a growing blog website with groovy, informative articles and resources about Health, Herbs, Homesteading, Organic Gardening, Beekeeping, Prepping and more.

Born in the 1950s, growing up in the 60s and 70s, I qualified as a “Hippie” at a time when, from the generation of Beatnicks came the 1st rock band, The Beatles… then the Vietnam War, Black Civil Rights, Desegregation, the Women’s Rights Movement, Recycling & Anti-Litter Clean-Up Crusades, “Woodstock”, Long Hair and the “Peace” symbol… which stood for something greater and deeper inside of us than the younger generations will ever feel as we struggled for “Freedom”.

Janis Joplin sang it so well in her 1971 hit song, “Me and Bobby McGee”… “Freedom’s Just Another Word for Nothin’ Left to Lose” (written by Kris Kristofferson).

The economy crashed in 2008 and by 2011 we had lost everything in North Carolina… our retail stores, mountain land, house, cars and dignity. Although it was a shock to our systems, it turned out to be a “blessing in disguise”.

Determined to make a strong comeback, we moved to Virginia to start all over again and built our homestead, learned raw survival skills (including how to butcher rabbits and chickens which then turned me into a vegetarian), rescued farm animals, built a 1600 sf organic garden, raised organic chickens and ducks, became natural beekeepers and built a business making herbal soap bars and other bath & body products. I have learned SO much about healthy living, survival skills, herbal remedies, canning, homesteading, organic gardening, beekeeping, economy, nature and FREEDOM… my goal is to share that knowledge on this website for those who also thirst for that good ol’ down-to-earth knowledge.
